COUNCIL CALLS ON SECRETARY CLINTON NOT TO THREATEN PAKISTAN

Posted - June 7, 2010

In the wake of the recent attempted Times Square attack, the Council on Pakistan Relations has called on Secretary Clinton to moderate her rhetoric towards Pakistan in order to rebuild trust and cooperation between the two nations. In a recent interview on the news show “60 Minutes”, Secretary Clinton stated that Pakistan would suffer “very severe consequences” if a terror attack in the United States was linked to Pakistan.
In letters to Secretary Clinton, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Chairman John Kerry and House Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Howard Berman, CPR said “public statement such as the one you (Secretary Clinton) made create an atmosphere of mistrust and play into the hands of the terrorists.”
